Shelter Buddy!

Anyone who knows Ayres and it's staff/volunteers knows that our first priority are the dogs and cats in our care. Cleaning their kennels, keeping them in the best mental and physical health and trying to get them the best forever home possible. ♥

So this is our MAIN goal!

We want to find ONE dedicated volunteer per dog that we have in our care.
We want that dog to be ensured an outing at least twice a month for an hour or so each time.
**Ayres may be out in the middle of nowhere - but little do people know - we have 20-40 dogs at any given time. We hardly EVER turn down a dog coming in.  We strive to help as many as we can, as often as we can.**  We have had SUCH success because of the amazing volunteers we have that come up any chance they can (some from an hour away or more) to spend time with their shelter buddy.

Not only does going on outings do good for the dogs, you get to volunteer and you will not regret the time you spend with our sweet babies. You will change this dog's life, and I promise they will either give you something you have been looking for or show you something you didn't even know you were missing.
You may not be able to adopt another dog, or any dog right now.

But what is stopping you from volunteering?
Because you will have to bring them back to the shelter? Don't feel bad about that - we love our shelter dogs just like we love our own animals. We spend just as much time with them, too!
For most of the dogs in our care, the shelter is the best life they've ever known - and you are going to help enrich that life even more!
The bond you share with the dogs we match you with, will be a bond that could turn their lives around.
The pictures you share of you and them on your outing - could be the picture that gets them adopted! I promise - you won't regret volunteering.

Cat/Kitten Foster  &   Cat Socialization

*We are ALWAYS looking for loving, dedicated and safe foster homes for our pregnant or nursing momma kitties to raise their babies in until they are ready to find their forever homes.

Do you have a safe place for a Queen to raise her kittens?

Do you have lots of love to give to kittens and helping them learn how to be wonderful fur-ever family members.

*Our shelter receives many feral kittens under 2 months of age that can be socialized and in time become loving, affectionate pets. The Shelter also receives many domesticated adult cats that require socialization due to the high level of stress they suffer from being caged.

The taming process for these scared cats takes patience and the understanding that the cats will come around at their own pace. Sometimes it takes a month, sometimes six months depending on the age and temperament of the cat.

The Ayres Socialization Team works with our scared cats daily to prepare them for adoption. Due to restrictions however, we cannot unfortunately always provide the amount of time that these cats require.

Individuals are desperately needed to adopt these great cats and to continue the socialization process in the home. Advice is provided on the adjustment process.
